Celebrations of National Day Reception
Embassy of India, Vientiane, hosted a grand reception to celebrate the 75th Republic Day of India on 23 January 2024. The event was graced by H.E. Saleumxay Kommasith, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lao PDR as Chief Guest. Dr. Manothong Vongxay, Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce; Mrs. Phonevanh Outhavong, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment; and Dr. Phayvanh Keopaseuth, Deputy Minister of Health also attended the event. Around 300 guests, including senior Government officials, Ambassadors, Diplomats, prominent members of Lao & Indian community, and friends of India participated in the reception.
2. The programme began with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the eminent guests, playing of National Anthems of Lao PDR and India, followed by the welcome speech by the Ambassador (copy enclosed).
3. Ambassador in his welcome address, presented an overview of bilateral relations and highlighted the achievements of India in last 75 years. He spoke about shared values that are at the core of India-Lao PDR relationship. He also reiterated India’s commitment to support Lao PDR for its ASEAN Chairship in 2024 and Visit Laos Year 2024.
4. An exhibition of photographs of India by famous Lao photographer Phoonsab Thevongsa were also displayed. The event included an exquisite Ramayana (which represents our shared rich heritage) performance by students of National School of Performing Arts and a Bollywood dance performance by artists of Fangao, the famous contemporary dance group.
5. The Republic Day of India, which falls on 26 January, will be celebrated in
the Chancery premises of the Embassy of India in Vientiane at 0900 hrs on 26
January 2024.
