The Embassy held an event to celebrate the 7th International Day of Yoga on 21 June 2021 virtually. His Excellency Mr. Bounneme Chouanghom, Ambassador of Lao PDR to India, and more than 30 people joined the event virtually.
The Ambassador, His Excellency Mr Dinkar Asthana, in his remarks mentioned that Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition to mankind. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. Yoga is for the benefit of all of us. It boosts our immunity and help us to fight stress and anxiety. Practicing Yoga is a way of leading a healthier life. He said, “I am happy to note that more and more people are learning and practising Yoga these days all over the world. In Laos also, there are many organizations as well as trained Yoga teachers who run Yoga classes”. Besides, he highlighted the salient points made by Honourable Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi in his speech at the main International Day of Yoga celebrations in New Delhi today.
Mr. Bounneme Chouanghom, Ambassador of Lao PDR to India expressed sincere appreciation to India for taking an initiative by laying the idea of Yoga Day which has been adopted by UN Assembly in September 2014. He said that this year India and Laos are celebrating 65 years of establishment of diplomatic relations and many activities have been planned to celebrate this occasion.
During the 45 minutes yoga session, an expert Yoga teacher from Indian Yoga Studio, held a 45-minute long session with a demonstration of asanas.
To mark the 7th International Day of Yoga, the Embassy has planned many events in Vientiane. On 13 June, the Embassy had organized a curtain raiser event with a Yoga session conducted by the Isha Foundation of India. The Embassy is also organizing the main event in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Sports, Lao PDR on 26 June 2021, in hybrid mode.
