Open House Meeting with the Indian Community on 02 July 2021

The Embassy of India in Vientiane organisedan Open House in virtual format on 02 July 2021, during which Ambassador DinkarAsthanaaddressed the Indian community in Lao PDR. During the virtual meeting the Ambassador briefed the community on various initiatives and schemes of Government of India such as India @75 - AzadikaAmritMahotsavwhich is being celebrated in India and world-wide to commemorate 75 years of progressive India and the glorious history its people, culture and achievements. The Ambassador also discussed about the Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF), Global Pravasi Rishta Portal, Passport SewaDiwas, mPassportSeva Mobile app and the Umang App offering services from more than 200 Government departments of the Central Government and of 28 States.

The Ambassador also mentioned about e-version of Booklet on Government’s Welfare measures for Sikh community. The Ambassador invited Indian community members to join various public functions being organized from time to time to mark various important events, in particular, Independence Day and Republic Day flag hoisting functions on the Embassy premises.  Second Secretary (Cons and Com) briefed the participants about latest changes and improvements on various passport, visa and consular related services.

A Question and Answer session was also organized during the virtual meeting.  The problemsshared by the participants through emailsand suggestions and concerns raised by the Indian community during the Q&A session were discussed during the meeting. In the end, the Ambassador thanked the community for their active participation, requested them to share their experiences of living and working in Lao PDR and bring up their problems to Embassy’s attention.  Ambassador re-assured the community members of Embassy’s full support and suitable measures within its purview.

The event was attended by more than 30 participants.  Overall, it was a productivesessionwith active participation of the Indian community in Lao PDR.
